The Buffalo Burger Company

Cateringtrucks

Martin Dix (founder and owner) started keeping Buffalo in 2017, having already kept rare breed pigs, Water Buffalo was somehow a natural progression, majestic animals, sometimes very calming and sometimes a little feisty - when threatened, they will put on a show of strength and take on any of the big cats if needed, using their horns to toss their opponent high in the air. Thankfully we don't have too many big cats in East Grinstead, despite the odd reports you read about. They are kept on meadow and clover grasslands, we use a 'strip-grazing' method ensuring a sustainable source of what they like the best, making them very happy Buffalo. During the summer they will wallow in their deep pond for hours, sometimes closing their nostrils to walk across the bottom and re-emerge on the other side. The hide of a Buffalo is literally ten times thicker than that of a domestic cow, they will grow long hair, making them resilient to the cold winter weather, despite their origins being Africa and Asia.

In Mid 2018, we bought our first catering trailer, 'The Pod' and The Buffalo Burger Company had its debut at our own Charity Fair, held here at the Farm. the response was fantastic, our guests realised immediately the difference to domestic beef. Buffalo is a nutrient-dense, lean protein that contains mono and polyunsaturated fat, as well as Omega-3 fatty acids. Buffalo is naturally low in sodium, cholesterol, and saturated fat. So not only tasty, a really healthy meat as well.

Shortly after buying a van, we took delivery of our Airstream - so now we can cater for events of any size

We also sell Wild Boar products, also all hand reared here at Fairlight Buffalo Farm

Our pigs are left to root in 14 acres of woodland - a natural habitat for them, they live a healthy, natural life. Rooting is a natural behavior for pigs where the pig uses his snout to push or nudge into something repeatedly. Pigs root in different ways for different reasons: for comfort, to communicate, to cool off and to search for food. And woodland is perfect for that.

A choice of sides and sauces prepared in our kitchens, some salads soon to be organically grown on the farm

And of course, we also offer vegetarian options!

We believe in responsible farming and will never dispatch an animal until we can be sure it can be fully used, as such some smaller events we sometimes rely on our extensive partner network in the Buffalo industry to supply fresh meat - as we do for them as well.
